Vicente Fernández was born on February 17, 1940, in the village of Huentitán El Alto, Jalisco, the son of a rancher and a housewife. When he was between 6 and 7 years old, he used to go with his mother to see movies starring Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete, and, as he once recalled, he told his mother that “when I grow up I’m going to be like them”. Thereafter he had a taste for music and at the age of 8, he was given a guitar, which he learned to play at the same time he began to study folk music.

Alejandro Fernández, Vicente Fernández, Gerardo Fernández, and  Alejandra Fernández are the four children born to Vicente Fernández.

Before Vicente Fernández passed away, he had a beautiful family, with a wife and kids. He married his neighbor, María del Refugio Abarca “Cuquita” on 27 December 1963. The duo has been together until the death of Vicente Fernández. He and his wife had four children together, three of them were biological; Vicente Jr., Gerardo, and Alejandro while their fourth daughter, Alejandra, is his niece, whom they adopted. From their children, they had 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
